An astounding reduction of 96% in the time taken for the Manual Gate Pass Process at ports and terminals
International trade growth depends on the efficient, secure, and accurate cargo movement through a country’s ports/terminals gates. The movement of millions of containers/cargo vehicles congest the ports/terminals area and the connecting roads/lanes. The considerably long time taken here is a major cause of the congestion and slow movement.Â
Most of the Indian ports have basic gate automation which leaves many critical checks and controls to be performed manually like Vehicle, Driver, Container, and Cargo identification. A check on the container’s physical condition is photographed manually for damages, theft, etc. adding to the delay.Â
We designed and implemented a solution that facilitates the identification of drivers and vehicles by mapping through RFID tags, containers & cargo by way of E-Seal (RFID). The solution also enabled container physical condition examination using multiple networked cameras.Â
We installed a series of RF & Electronic equipment synchronised to operate in defined steps of validations at the entry/exit points and terminals. This reduced human intervention to the minimum to speed up the process and improve accuracy.Â
After the successful implementation of our RFID based Gate Automation System, the time recorded for the complete manual gate pass process was reduced to 30 seconds from 13 minutes per container.Â
