Warehouse Management with RFID-enabled Forklift
We increased throughput in Warehouse Processes with the accuracy of our solution.
THE CHALLENGE
A plant’s warehouse stores finished goods in packed form. The standard processes here include production receipts, put away, picking, staging and load/dispatch.
Material handling equipment is required as per the packed finished goods’ type and weight (which is generally high). One of the most commonly used ones is a Forklift used in all processes in a warehouse.
The common challenges of Warehouse Automation are
- material stacking is not proper (instead, it’s at the mercy of the FL Operator)
- the picking process is inefficient
- Product Storage Location is inaccurate
- FIFO implementation is tedious
- inventory is incorrect
THE NEED
- To remove manual checking to account for the production receipts after the product is put away in the warehouse (from the end of the production line) using a forklift (as manual lifting is not possible)
- To prepare a picklist for dispatches with the location to decrease the search time, apply FIFO and reduce the risk of picking the wrong products (especially in a multi-products warehouse)
- To conduct staging, sales order wise (if applicable), followed by loading
- To introduce Product Package Identification and its Location to speed up the process of picking, staging and loading, which is otherwise very slow and has a high probability of errors.
OUR SOLUTION
To address the business challenges and client concerns, we implemented a solution that combined the usage of RFID-enabled Forklift, RFID-Tagged Pallets or Product packs and RFID-Tagged Locations.
The objective was to capture the Product Pack ID and Storage Location ID during the put-away process and save the data in the database for future use. It eliminated the manual processes, captured data online and improved the process efficiency with less workforce and within a shorter time.
IMPACT WE MADE
With the Warehouse Management with RFID enabled Forklift, we were able to make an impact by:
- achieving easy-to-manage warehouse related operations like Production receipts, put away, picking, staging and load/dispatch with RFID-tagged pallets
- easy assignment of jobs to a forklift and job order execution confirmation on a real-time basis
